Fall River
Fall River – Alda (Fontes) Reis, age 80, passed away peacefully February 16, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late John M. Reis. Born in Ginetes and raised in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal, she was the cherished daughter of the late Alírio and Deodata (Raposo) Fontes.
Alda had a deep love for travel and was truly a world traveler. Among her favorite destinations were her beloved Portugal, as well as Florida, Alaska, and Cuba. Her journeys reflected her adventurous spirit and appreciation for experiencing the beauty of different places and cultures. In her early years, Alda worked as a nurse at Clínica de Bom Jesus in Ponta Delgada, where she cared for others with compassion and dedication. She later devoted more than 50 years of her life to her work as a talented seamstress. Through her creativity and passion, she brought beauty into the lives of many, pouring care and pride into every piece she made.
Alda was known for her generous heart and willingness to lend a helping hand to friends and family. She cherished life's simple pleasures, meeting friends for coffee, spending meaningful time with her beloved family, and most especially embracing her role as grandmother. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She found peace and happiness at the beach, particularly while watching the sunsets in Newport, moments that reflected her quiet appreciation for life's beauty.
Alda will be remembered for her warmth, strength, kindness, and the deep love she had for her family.
She survived by her children: Scott Reis (wife Jennifer) of E. Bridgewater, Janice Gregory (husband Sean) of Swansea; siblings: Jose Maria Fontes (Isabel), Alírio Fontes, Fatima Oliveira (Norman), Adelaide Dos Anjos (Alfredo), Ana Bela Garcia (Jorge) and Rosalina (Rosy) Fontes; grandchildren: Dylan, Kelan and Ashlyn Reis, Reighan and Ethan Gregory, Nicholas Lovell and Victoria Anderson. She was preceded in death by her brother Eugenio Fontes (Maria). She leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
