Obituary

Alfred L. Mayo Jr., age 73, of Swansea, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his beloved caregivers. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Alfred L. Mayo Sr. and the late Florence (Mello) Mayo.

Alfred was a proud graduate of Case High School, Class of 1969, and went on to earn his degree from the former Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMass Dartmouth) in 1973.

Gifted with a natural talent for working with his hands, Alfred pursued a career as a machinist, a field in which he worked for several years. A self-taught mechanic from the young age of sixteen, he had a lifelong passion for automobiles, both collecting and maintaining them with great care. Alfred also enjoyed collecting stamps and was an active member of the Fall River Stamp Club. His ability to repair and create seemed almost magical — he could fix anything he touched.

After suffering a stroke ten years ago, Alfred made his home at a special group residence in Swansea operated by People Incorporated, where he was blessed with extraordinary care and kindness from his nurses and caregivers.

Alfred is survived by his daughter, Christina Mayo, and his three grandchildren, along with several extended family members.

In keeping with his wishes, services will be private and are under the direction of the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Vinnicum Woods Cemetery in Swansea.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alfred's memory may be made to People Incorporated, 4 South Main Street, Fall River, MA 02721.
