Fall River

Obituary

Alice (Bettencourt) Sa, age 96, of Fall River, MA, passed away on Aug. 29, 2024. She was the beloved mother of her late sons Christopher, Scott, and Michael, and living sons Jeffrey, Gregory, and Dennis, and the oldest daughter of the late Americo and Alice (Rogers) Bettencourt. She was an ex-United States Air Force wife of her ex-husband, the late Manuel D. Sa.

Alice was a very exceptional and wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, god-mother, and friend you could ever have in your life. She dedicated her life to taking care of her family, especially her late son Michael. She was a very strong-willed woman, very bullheaded, stubborn, and set in her ways…she had to be, raising a family of boys on her own. Life dealt her those cards, and she played them very close to her chest, and very well…by surviving everything and everyone along the way. Don't be fooled though, she was a softy at heart, and had a golden one…very generous, caring, and loving to the ends of the earth.

She would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it, even though she didn't have much to give, she made it up in love. She gave a world of love to everyone in her path of life. She always put her family and friends first before herself no matter what time, or day it was. She had such a special laugh and smile that was contagious when you were around her.

Alice loved playing cards and board games with her family and was as smart as a whip. She loved cooking and baking for her family and friends, and her specialties were Shepherd's Pie, and her famous Cranberry Cookies and Christmas Hot Milk Cake…everyone loved. She was a devoted sports mom, and diehard sports fan with her sons by never missing a game on T.V. with them, and by attending an occasional game with them of all the New England teams, but especially the Bruins and Red Sox. She loved her game shows, classic movies, Walker Texas Ranger, sports, soaps, Shirley Temple movies, Hallmark movies (especially the Christmas ones), and White Christmas, and It's a Wonderful Life. In which, she felt the same way, for she was thankful for every single day she awakened and always thanked God for it.

She was a member of the former Sacred Heart Church, and always attended mass and supported their events. She loved Christmas and enjoyed decorating her home with lots of decorations that sang and danced and made you laugh. A true kid at heart. Her only regret toward the end was never getting a driver's license. She always walked and rode busses everywhere, but she made lots of friends that way and had fun doing it, for it kept her healthy to her ripe old age of 96. She will be truly missed, but never forgotten, for we will carry her in our hearts and memories forever through pictures and stories, until we meet again on the other side. We love you mom, thank you for everything, please rest in peace.

Alice is survived by her sons; Jeffrey Sa and his wife Andrea (Boston), Gregory P. Sa and his wife Bella (Fall River), Dennis Sa and his wife Vivian (Westport); her grand-children; Christine Sa-Lopes and husband Kevin Lopes (Swansea), Christopher Sa (Fall River), Jennifer Sa (Arizona), and Austin Sa (Boston); her great-grandchildren; Brody, Cora, and Aubrey Bshara (Swansea); as well as several nieces, and nephews. Besides her ex-husband and her parents, Alice was predeceased by her siblings; William and George Bettencourt, Janet Dootson, and Theresa Warhall; her sons; Christopher, Scott, and Michael.
