Somerset - Antonio J. (Tony) Melo, age 55, unexpectedly passed away on Thursday January 8, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital. Born April 29, 1970, in Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel, Acores. Tony was the son of Maria Natalia (Cabral) Melo and the late Antonio Melo. His family later made the United States their home.

After graduating from Diman Regional Vocational High School in 1988, Tony served in the US Air Force (1988-92). He later earned his Associated Degree in Engineering (2001) and worked as an engineer at the Double E Group in West Bridgewater.

Tony was a devoted father and enjoyed everything outdoors and nature related. He loved kayaking, strolling on the beach, and rollerblading along the coastline with his friends and family. A creative and curious soul, Tony found happiness in working with his hands, designing, building, and refining ideas into personal creations. Tony was a true inspiration and an amazing father, friend, and family member, and will be deeply missed by all who his soul touched.

In addition to his mother Maria, Tony is survived by his son Nathaniel Melo of Somerset; his long-term companion Lisa Wong; siblings Luis A. Melo (wife Christina) of New Bedford, and Connie Melo (husband Luis) of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews.
