Arlene M.
Silvia
Feb 7, 1951 — Nov 10, 2025
Somerset
Arlene M. Silvia, 74, of Somerset, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 10, 2025 surrounded by her family. Born on February 7, 1951, in Fall River, she was the beloved wife of Antone Silvia and the daughter of the late Manuel Souza and Mary A. Souza (Luciano).
Arlene graduated from Somerset High School in 1969, setting out on a lifelong vocation of caring for others. She trained as a nurse and served patients first at Union Hospital and later at Charlton Memorial Hospital, before becoming the school nurse at South School in Somerset, where generations of children remember her gentle reassurance and ready smile.
A woman of deep faith, Arlene was a lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick's Church. She served as past President of the Women's Guild, co-chaired the parish's beloved annual bazaar, and was honored with the Marion Medal for her devoted service. Her community contributions were further recognized with a service award for the Somerset High School Athletic Hall of Fame, Unsung Heroine Award of 2008 from MA Commission on the Status of Women, and the Fall River Chamber of Commerce Recognition Award for Outstanding Service, a testament to the countless hours she poured into church and town life.
Around Somerset, Arlene was easy to spot—cruising in her bright red convertible, often leading local parades and always waving to friends along the route. Her zest for life shone through in every smile and cheerful honk.
Arlene was a devoted sister to her twin, Anne Gagnon and her husband Richard, and was predeceased by her brother James Souza, whose wife Carol survives him. She was a loving mother to Amy Cook and her longtime companion Sean Flannery and Aaron Silvia and his wife Jennifer. Arlene was especially proud of her grandchildren—Logan and Ava Cook, and Aubrie and Emilie Silvia—who brought her endless joy. Arlene held a special place in her heart for her niece Allison Bernier, her nephew Adam Gagnon, and her great-nephew Keegan Sebastiao.
Arlene's life of compassion, faith, and boundless energy touched everyone she met. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the patients she comforted, and the community she served with joy.
