Obituary

Belmiro Castro, age 94, a resident of Somerset since 1966, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023. Born Dec. 11, 1928 in Fall River, MA, Belmiro was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Correia) Castro and the son of the late Ernine & Etelvina (Antunes-Sousa) Castro.

Prior to retiring in 1989, Belmiro worked as a Shipping Clerk at Globe Mfg. for 30 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War. Ever the jokester, Belle often said he had three great loves in his life - his family, fishing, and beer - but wouldn't divulge the ranked order of the three. His family is fairly certain they ranked first though.

Belle and his wife Dorothy were married for almost 63 years, raising three children together and sharing many adventures together until her passing in 2013. Belle enjoyed fishing well into his 80s and trips to the Progressive Club with his friends until his early 90s. In recent years, he especially loved visiting with his great-grandchildren - his "GGs" - and watching his family grow.

Belle's family would like to thank the staff at Somerset Ridge for the care and companionship they provided Belle during the last few years.

Belmiro is survived by his children: Scott Castro of Edgartown, MA, Matthew Castro of Vineyard Haven, MA, and Elizabeth Souza (husband Bryan) of Westport, MA; grandchildren: Jessica Souza Bridges (husband Matthew), Ava Belle Castro (husband Scott Goldin), and Adam Castro; great grandchildren: Jacob Bridges, Audrey Bridges, Wren Castro-Goldin, and Sawyer Castro-Goldin; his brother: Edward Castro of Florida; nieces & nephews. Belmiro was the brother of the late Adrian Castro, Antonio Castro, and Maria Deschenes.
