SOMERSET - We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Cherlyn A. Mendes, who was born on July 29, 1956, in Fall River, Massachusetts.  She passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at Boston Medical center in Boston Massachusetts after a brief illness. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Amelia (Arruda) Wright, formerly of Somerset.

Cherlyn was a proud Somerset native and a graduate of Somerset High School, Class of 1974. She earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Psychology from Bridgewater State College, and later went on to complete her Master's Degree in Elementary Education at Framingham State University. Cherlyn dedicated much of her life to teaching, first at Watson Elementary School in Fall River, MA, and later finishing her career at Pine Grove Elementary in Brooksville, Florida.

Her life's path was filled with adventure, taking her from Massachusetts to California, Hawaii, and back to Massachusetts before settling in Brooksville, Florida, where she lived for nearly sixteen years. In 2025, she returned to Massachusetts to be closer to her family. Cherlyn embraced every chapter of her journey and found joy wherever she lived. She loved spending time with her family—especially her grandchildren—and cherished moments with her many dear friends. Always ready for an adventure, Cherlyn lived her life with warmth, curiosity, and a generous heart.

Cherlyn is survived by her daughter Jennifer Leger and grandchildren: Conner Leger, Landon Leger and Chloe Leger, all of Somerset; siblings: Charles Wright of Whitinsville, Micheal Wright and his wife Sissy of Somerset and Robert Wright of Somerset; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Susan Wright-Belanger, formerly of Somerset.

We will be celebrating Cherlyn's life with a Visitation on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. and a Service at 6 P.M. at the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N Main St, Fall River, MA 02720. Cremation to follow.
