ASSONET - Cynthia Souza, 75, passed away on September 26th 2025, peacefully at home after a long illness. Cynthia was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, to the late Michael and Pauline Dufresne. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend, Thomas Souza the love of her life. When he passed in December, her heart could never truly mend.
Cynthia worked for many years as a phlebotomist at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River MA, where she was known for her caring nature and dedication to her patients. She retired in 2009 due to illness, but her strength and resilience continued to inspire those around her.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures — sitting in the sun, reading a good book, and enjoying sweets of any kind. Her faithful dog, Wilson, never left her side and brought her comfort throughout her illness. Above all, Cynthia's greatest joy came from time with her family, and her love will forever live on in their hearts.
She is survived by 3 daughter's Karen Wood and Husband David of Freetown MA, Kerrie Souza of Fall River MA, and Kelly Knapp and Husband Brian of Athol MA. Cindy was the proud Nana of her eight grandchildren that she cherished as well: David Turner, Joshua Turner, Aidan Wood, Keaton Wood, Hailey Kennedy, Mackenize Souza, Thomas Kennedy and Cooper Satkevich.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Hanover Hospice for their outstanding care during this difficult time, especially to Carolina and Crystal, and most of all to Stephanie, who became like a daughter to Cynthia.
Following cremation, a visitation for Cynthia will take place on Tuesday October 7th from 8:30 – 10 AM with a service to immediately follow at 10 AM at the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River.
