Fall River

Obituary

David Brian Leatherwood, 66, of Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025.

Born in Fall River on June 26, 1959, David's life was marked by adventure and a deep appreciation for both family and the outdoors. He spent a large portion of his younger years in California, soaking up the West Coast sunshine before eventually making his way back home to Massachusetts. After returning to Fall River, David served as a courier for Portsmouth Abbey School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He spent many years in this role and took pride in the work he did and the connections he made there.

David had a deep love for music, family, and football. He enjoyed playing guitar, and some of his favorite moments were jamming with his three brothers. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time in nature. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends.

Those who knew David will remember him as someone who was non-judgmental, fiercely loyal to his family and friends, and always ready for a good time. He had a talent for finding humor in everyday situations. If there is one thing everyone knew about David it was that he brought laughter wherever he went with his quick wit and love of a good joke.

David is survived by his three brothers: James Leatherwood and his wife Susan of Taunton, Michael "Mick" Leatherwood and his wife Carleen of Crestview, Florida, and John Leatherwood and his wife Kristine of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. He is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews who will carry on his memory. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary A. Leatherwood and his father James S. Leatherwood, Sr., both of Fall River.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate David's life at his visitation on Thursday, Sep. 25th from 10AM-12PM, with a service to follow as 12 Noon in the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a memory of David, or simply take a moment to enjoy the outdoors as he loved to.
