David McElroy, age 52, a resident of Somerset, passed away with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Joanne L. (Holt) McElroy and the son of the late David C. Medeiros and the late Elizabeth Ann (Megna) McElroy.

David served 3 years in the US Marine Corps during the Persian Gulf War, 2 years with the National Guard, and 22 years as a police officer on the Fall River Police Dept. Some of David's interests were playing his favorite video game "Elder Scrolls" with his wife Joanne. They spent a lot of time since Covid, building up their video game characters and going on fantastic adventures together. David's most played character was "Gratahan son of Mustafahan". He loved family fun nights when all of his family would get together and play board games together. His daughter Sierra was the Game master, teaching the family all of the rules and making sure they all had a fun experience.

He cherished his dogs and would make home cooked meals for them to take good care of them. David was an avid NE Patriots fan, loved his Fantasy football league, recreational fishing, and participating and praying with his church group. His love for the Lord was like no other. David had many hobbies over the years but his favorites were the ones where he could be with his loved ones. Any chance he had to be with someone he loved was all he cared about. He would do things that he had no interest in, just as long as it made someone he loved happy. Not one person could sum up all of his hobbies, because he'd try anything out.

In addition to his wife Joanne, David is survived by his children David McElroy Jr. (girlfriend Tianna) of Fall River and Sierra McElroy (boyfriend Wyatt) of Somerset; siblings Melissa & David Lavoie, Kim Medeiros, Mark & Theresa Medeiros, Linda Courville, Debra Donavan McElroy, Michael McElroy (fiancé Kim Medeiros), Patrick McElroy, Nina & Joe Matton, Nicole Courville, Keith & Kim McElroy, Kerry McElroy, and the late John McElroy; grandsons David McElroy III and Devon Medeiros Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to David's family to help with his funeral expenses.

David's public calling hours will take place on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024 from 4-8 P.M. in the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, MA.
