Obituary

David C. Steinert of Somerset, MA, passed away at the age of 68 on December 13, 2025. Born in East Brunswick, he was the devoted husband of Jacqueline (Ferreira) Steinert of Somerset, MA. He is survived by his brother, Gary, who resides in Florida, as well as loyal friends Gary Delude of Rehoboth, MA, and Craig Hoffman of PA. He also leaves behind his in-laws: Arthur Ferreira Jr., Judith Duffy, Chris Vargas, and Cathy & Charles Paulson, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his son, Robert A. Dumas; his parents, Joan Florence and Donald Charles Steinert; in-laws Arthur Ferreira and Lorraine (Ferreira) Holewiak.

David earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Glassboro State College. He dedicated over 28 years to Old Dominion Freight Lines, where his commitment to both his work and his extended family was evident in all that he did. David began his career at Old Dominion in New Jersey sales before transferring to Providence, Rhode Island as Terminal Manager. In his final years at Old Dominion Freight Lines, he served as Regional Vice President for the Great Lakes region in Columbus, Ohio, and later transferred to Harrisburg, PA, as Regional Vice President for the Northeast Region. A special thank you to David Bates.

To say that David was an exceptional man is an understatement. After suffering an injury in September 2021, he spent more than two years in hospitals and rehabilitation. Throughout this challenging period, David remained positive and continued to support his loved ones. David deeply appreciated Old Dominion Freight Lines and their commitment to staying by his side, providing support and resources needed during his journey.

David was a gentle old soul and a kind human being, always ready with an empathetic ear and a strong desire to help anyone in need. He was a team player, a silent leader, and an extraordinary problem solver who faced every challenge with a "we got this" attitude. David supported his extended family, encouraging and cheering them on. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.

Outside of work, David cherished spending time with friends and family. He maintained close ties to his hometown of Somerset, MA, and enjoyed long road trips with his wife, whether for work or pleasure. David had a passion for reading, music, theater, traveling, and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed hockey, baseball, and football.

David was known as a secret Santa all year round. His family asks that we "Be like Dave" and in lieu of flowers, please consider paying it forward by quietly reaching out to someone in need, a friend, neighbor, or co-worker. Small acts of kindness go a long way.

David's funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Friday, Dec. 19th here at 8:00 AM with a Funeral Mass at St. John of God Church, Somerset at 9:00 AM. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
