Fall River

Obituary

FALL RIVER- With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Debra A. Lomas, age 64, who after a 10 year battle with cancer passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026. She was the beloved wife to Edward Lomas. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Leo Martel and Hazel May (Dinsmore) Martel.

She was a dedicated paraprofessional at Doran Elementary School in Fall River, where she loved working with children and making a difference in their lives. She extended this love through her work at Citizens for Citizens on Robeson Street in their afterschool program. Having earned her associate degree, she was a hardworking and determined woman who took great pride in helping others.

Family meant everything to her. She was actively involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews, loving them as if they were her own children. She rarely missed their games, performances, and special events, always cheering them on and supporting them.

She was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching races with her husband both on TV as well as making the trip up to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Furthermore, she also enjoyed spending time with her beloved cats, Tiger and Princess. She loved shopping and was a devoted fan of Donny Osmond, attending his concerts whenever she could. She also cherished visiting her Aunt Gloria and her cousins, Tammy, Mark, as well as her late cousin Brett, from Midland, Texas. Whether with family, friends, children, or her pets, she brought kindness, loyalty, and love to those around her and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Along with her husband, Debra is survived by her brother William Martel and his wife Darlene of Somerset; her nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to her as "Auntie Deedee:" Tiffany, Matthew, Kaleigh, Billie, Samuel, Thomas, Jessica, Ashley, Mark, Shawn, Scott, Sherri, Kayla, and Janell; several great-nieces and nephews; and best friend Sharon Araujo. She was predeceased by her nephew Matthew.
