FALL RIVER - We are sad to announce that Elvira Pacheco Monte, age 93, passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Nursing Center of New Bedford surrounded by her loving family on October 6, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Eugenio do Monte. Born in Porto Formoso, St. Michael, Azores to the late Jose and Alexandrina (Rosario) Monte.
Christmas was more than just a holiday to Elvira. It was a season she looked forward to all year long. She loved everything about Christmas: the twinkling lights, nativity scenes, the decorations, the music, the traditions, and most of all, the joy of being surrounded by family and loved ones.
Elvira was a woman with a heart of gold who never hesitated to help someone in need. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she would gladly give to anyone, including those experiencing homelessness. She was also very generous to her church, always willing to give financially and support the church and the work it did in the community. She never expected anything in return and found joy in helping others whenever she could. Above all, Elvira treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren, who brought her so much joy and happiness. She loved being a grandmother and cherished every moment and memory they shared together. Her kindness, generosity, and love for her family and community will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Elvira was loved and cherished by many people including her children Mary Aguiar and her husband Steve of Dartmouth, Carlos Monte and his fiancé Landa Gomes of Rehoboth, John Monte of Fall River and Theresa Richardson of Dartmouth; grandchildren Jonathan Aguiar, Sara Haller and her husband Eli and Michael Richardson; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Maria Monte, Norbina DaSilva, Manuel Monte, Nicholas Monte, Sebastian Monte and Jose Pacheco.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St., Fall River Saturday, October 17th, with extended calling hours from 8-9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
