Elvira Tavares, age 99 of Fall River since 1967, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 with her loving family by her side. Born in Ariffes, São Miguel, Açores, Elvira was the beloved wife of the late Antonio O. Tavares and the daughter of the late Manuel Pereira Moniz and the late Rosa Jesus Viveiros Moniz.

Prior to retiring, Elvira worked for the former Essex Mfg. Company as a cloth inspector, and was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. In her leisure time, Elvira enjoyed gardening and tending to her beautiful flowers, sewing, knitting, baking & cooking. She also enjoyed watching the Price is Right on TV, and in her earlier years, watching the Lawrence Welk show on Saturday nights.

Elvira spent many hours at St. Michael's Church volunteering for a lot of their functions and many of her greatest moments was decorating the street in front of her house for the St. Michael's Church feast. Most of all, Elvira loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Maria Fatima Pereira (husband Durval) of Fall River, Joao Tavares (wife Natalie) of Fall River, Walter Tavares (wife Margaret) of Somerset, Hildeberto "Al" Tavares (wife Natalie) of Swansea, Antonio Tavares (wife Eduarda) of Somerset, and Arthur Tavares of Fall River; sisters: Elza Martins of Toronto, Valentina Pereira Morgado, and Eduarda Sousa both of Winnipeg; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; many nieces & nephews. Elvira was also the sister of the late Manuel Pereira, Maria Rose Furtado, and Almerinda Raposa.

Elvira's funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Monday, March 11, 2024 here at 9:00 A.M. with a funeral mass at St. Michael's Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 3-7 P.M.
