FALL RIVER – Ernest S. Tavares, age 87, of Fall River, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born in São Vincente Ferreira, São Miguel, Açores, he was the beloved husband to Mary Theresa (Gonsalves) Tavares and the son of the late Manuel T. and Maria (Sousa) Pacheco.

Prior to retiring, Ernest worked as a laborer for Aetna Construction Co. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, a shareholder at the Afonso Costa Republican Club, and a member of the St. Michael's Feast Committee.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 2 children: Ernest Tavares (wife Cindy) of Georgia and Elizabeth "Liz" Furtado (husband John) of Fall River; siblings: Leonor Ventura, Ilda Sousa, and Jaime S. Tavares all of Fall River; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; several nieces & nephews. Ernest was the brother of the late João, Manuel, Luis Tavares, Jośe Sousa, Rev. Agostinho deSousa Pacheco, Maria da Conceicão Alberto, Ressurreicão Paiva, Cristina Lima, Zulmira Bernardo, and Gilda Amaral.

Ernest's funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, MA. on Saturday at 8:45 A.M. followed by a funeral mass in St. Michael's Church at 10:00 A.M.
