Obituary

Gabriel Medeiros Patricio passed away on Monday, January 6th at the age of 87. Gabriel died one month after his wife of 65 years, Rosa, who entered eternal rest on December 3, 2024. Gabriel was born in Fenais da Luz, on the island of São Miguel, Açores, to the late Manuel Patricio and Maria Do Carmo Medeiros Patricio. He was raised primarily by his mother and grandfather, Manuel Mauricio Medeiros, after the untimely death of his father when he was only 15 months old. After marrying Rosa, they had four sons and raised them in the Açores until the family immigrated to the United States in 1977. Upon settling in Fall River, Gabriel worked in the construction industry until his retirement.

Gabriel was a dedicated family man and devoted his retirement years supporting and helping his family. Along with his wife, he took a lot of joy in being with his kids and grandkids who played a big role in his life. He enjoyed reading, watching his favorite soccer team, Benfica, and sitting under his treasured grapevine during those warm summer afternoons. It wasn't unusual to find both he and his wife taking a nap under the grapevine.

His primary hobby was making wine. Gabriel brought the tradition of making homemade wine from the Açores and, like so many others, passionately made and consumed his wine. He would, on occasion, donate some to his church and was very proud of the fact that his wine won first prize at a couple of gatherings. Every Christmas, he would gift each of his sons his homemade "vinho abafado," a traditional fortified dessert wine made with lots of love, and a true collaboration between Gabriel and Rosa that will be treasured for years to come.

Gabriel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by everyone who knew him, but especially by his sons, their wives, and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gabriel is survived by his sons Alfred Patricio (wife Cynthia), Gabriel Patricio (wife Aida), Carlos Patricio (wife Linda) and Liberio "Lee" Patricio (wife Margaret); grandchildren James Patricio, Courtney Patricio, Brienne Wapenyi, Karen Patricio, Sean Patricio, and Matthew Patricio; great-grandchildren Leah, Travis, Andre, Kaylor, Zara, and Tristian. He was also the loving grandfather of the late Taylor Patricio with whom he shared a very close bond.

Gabriel's funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Saturday, Jan. 11th at 8:45AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Michael's Church at 10AM.
