Obituary

With deep respect and gratitude, we honor the life of George Amaral, a devoted patriot, loving husband, and dedicated servant to both his country and community. He passed away peacefully in his home on February 27, 2025, at the age of 99, leaving behind a legacy of service, resilience, and kindness that will be remembered for generations.

Born on August 10, 1925, in Fall River, Massachusetts, George was the beloved son of Manny and Rose Amaral. He grew up with a strong sense of duty and an unwavering work ethic. Before joining the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he worked alongside his father in his construction business, learning the skills that would later serve him both in military service and throughout his career. When World War II called, George answered, enlisting in the Army. His service took him across both the European and Pacific Theaters, where he played a vital role in constructing and repairing critical infrastructure essential to the success of Allied operations. Following the wars end, George was part of the reconstruction efforts in Japan, working to rebuild the devastated city of Hiroshima.

On the eve of his deployment, fate intervened when George met Elda Canario. Though they had only a single day together, George knew in his heart that she was the woman he would one day marry. Through the trials of war and time apart, he held onto that belief. True to his word, on the very first day he returned home to Fall River, he reunited with Elda, and just six months later, they were married. Their love story was one of deep devotion, partnership, and unwavering commitment, lasting a lifetime.

After his military service, George embarked on a lifelong career in the fuel service industry, where he worked his way through the ranks—from delivery and service to ultimately serving as a general manager. His dedication to hard work, customer service, and leadership made a lasting impact on the industry and the people he worked with and served.

Faith and community were central to George's life. He was a devoted parishioner of St. John of God Church in Somerset, MA, for 62 years. He was also proud to spend 26 years as a Royal Traveler, embracing adventure and the joy of exploring new places with his fellow travelers. George had such deep appreciation for the journeys he and Elda took together that he meticulously kept records of each trip, documenting the places they visited and the memories they made and was proud to share.

George had a deep love for the outdoors, particularly boating and fishing. Whether he was out on the water or enjoying nature in any way, he found peace and happiness in these activities. He also enjoyed bird watching from his Somerset home on the river, where he took great pleasure in the tranquility and beauty of nature.

An avid reader, his love for learning kept him engaged with the world around him and connected to the past. George had a particular interest in history, with a special love for American Indians.

Though Elda passed away in 2019, George's love for her remained constant, and he continued to treasure their life together. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Natalie Litos, brother-in-law, Larry Viera, and nine nieces and nephews.
