Georgette B
Biscari
Nov 2, 1945 — Sep 8, 2023
Acushnet
New Bedford- Georgette Borgia Biscari, of Acushnet, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Oaks in New Bedford, after a courageous battle with metastatic neuroendocrine carcinoma.
Born November 2, 1945 in Meriden, CT, Georgia was the fourth daughter of the late John and Mary (Borgia) Biscari. In 1948, she relocated to New Bedford, MA with her mother and siblings, and has resided in Acushnet since 1979. She was a 1963 graduate of New Bedford High School, and a 1967 graduate of Worcester State College with a degree in Secondary Education, specializing in Spanish, English Language and Social Sciences. She had a true penchant for languages, also studying French, Latin, Russian, Portuguese and Italian in her lifetime.
Georgia established her professional career as a social worker and educator for various programs in the greater New Bedford area, including the New Bedford Welfare office, GNB Skills Center, Mass Job Training, the New Bedford Housing Authority, and New Bedford Public Schools. She retired in 2015 from UMASS Dartmouth Workers' Education Program, where she served as Workplace Education Coordinator for 15 years, as well as teaching ESOL and ABE/GED classes. She was a fierce advocate for education, and was committed to helping others to succeed through her gifts of language proficiency, career skills and coaching.
Also a well-known medium in the Southcoast, Georgia began receiving psychic messages at the age of 9. She began her study of spiritualism in 1985, and continued her studies for many years with the American Federation of Spiritualism, obtaining certification in mediumship and healing in 2009. She was a parishioner of the First Spiritualist Church of Onset, MA, and actively served as Secretary on the Board of Directors for many years until her illness.
Georgia's greatest joy was motherhood- she was a devoted, supportive mother and best friend to her daughter, Jill. She was a true pet lover, welcoming many kitties and one special dalmatian into her home over the years. She was an avid cook, and a fan of culinary delights from around the world. She loved to host dinner parties with family and friends, and prepare her mother's recipes to share with others. She will be remembered for her contagious smile, cracking "punny " jokes, always thanking her cashier by name, and creating a lasting, personal connection with whomever she met. She will be fondly missed by all who knew her.
Georgia is survived by her daughter, Jill M. (Biscari-Prevost) Perry and husband Kevin, of New Bedford; their sons, Kyle, Zachary and Riley; a sister, Annette Biscari Tsuji, of Worcester, MA; a brother, George Biscari, of New Bedford; a brother-in-law, David M. Amaral, of Spring Hill, FL; nephews David Amaral, of New Bedford; Steven Amaral, of Long Island, NY; John Amaral and wife Kim, of Newport, RI; Michael Fogarty and wife Melissa, of Somerset, MA; her dearest friends of 45 years, Lenora Pennington and husband David Goldrick of Acushnet; as well as a large extended family residing in MA, NY, VA, FL, and CA.
Georgia was predeceased by her sisters, Josephine Biscari Fogarty and Constance Biscari Amaral. She was the former spouse of Gerald R. Prevost, of FL, and the late Robert E. Meggison.
