Gilberto M.
Carreiro Daluz
Nov 3, 1945 — Jun 4, 2025
Westport
Gilberto M. Carreiro daLuz, age 79, of Westport, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Gilberto was born on November 3, 1945, in Furnas, São Miguel, Açores. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Maria de Lourdes (Sousa) daLuz, whom he lost on June 6, 2024, and his parents, Manuel Borges daLuz and Maria Luisa (Ricardo Carreiro) daLuz.
Prior to retiring, Gilberto worked as a machine operator in the textile industry. He enjoyed caring for his chickens and rabbits, going fishing, and tending to his vegetable garden and numerous flower gardens. Many afternoons were spent sitting on the porch or relaxing by the fish pond. He loved a good meal, a glass of wine, and had a sweet tooth for desserts.
Gilberto supported the Special Olympics and played in their volleyball fundraiser games for several years. He was a proud grandfather and frequently attended his grandchildren's baseball, basketball, softball, and field hockey games, as well as many dance recitals. He loved the companionship of Charlie, Louie, and Tuukka—the family pets. His most recent fascination began when he was introduced to a Starbucks Caramel Macchiato, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Most of all, Gilberto cherished spending time with his friends and family—especially with his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye.
Gilberto is survived by his daughter, Ana daLuz-Pacheco and husband Peter of Fall River; son, David daLuz and wife Sarah of Dartmouth; and four grandchildren, Emily, Chloe, and Thomas Pacheco, and Aria daLuz. He also leaves behind his sisters, Rafaela Medeiros and husband Lidio of Canada, and Fernanda Ferreira and husband Manuel of Seekonk; his sister-in-law, Lucia Quental and husband Eugene of California; and many godchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation for Gilberto will take place on Thursday, June 12th from 8:30 to 10:30 A.M. at Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main Street, Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Church. Interment to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
