Dighton – Gloria Estrela Melo, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8 ^th surrounded by her loving family at home.  Born in Rabo de Peixe Sao Miguel Acores, she was the daughter of  the late Manuel and Maria Da Conceicao Estrela (De Silva) Barroso, she was the beloved wife of the late Emidio DeMelo.

Prior to her retirement, she was a garment inspector at the Whaling Coat Factory in Fall River for many years.  Gloria enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting, spending time in the yard gardening, and above all else, spending time with her family and friends.  She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and she will be deeply missed.  Special friends Alfredo & Alda Pacheco as well as many others will truly miss her.

Gloria is survived by her children: Connie DeCouto and her husband John, Norberto Melo and his wife Melaine, Lucia Pacheco and her husband Nelson, her siblings; Maria Olinda Moreira and Maria (Merceus) Branco; her grandchildren, Jason and Kevin DeCouto, Natasha Rodriguez, Kayla Melo, Laryssa Pacheco; her great-grandchildren; Gianna, Tyler, Elyse, Sebastian, Gabriella, and Nahla; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her daughter Bernice Melo and her siblings; Jose Barroso and Maria Eugenia Grilo.

Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N Main St. Fall River on Friday, May 13 ^th at 9:00 A.M.  A Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. John of God in Somerset at 10:00 A.M.  Interment at St. Patricks Cemetery in Fall River.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12 ^th from 4:00-8:00 P.M.
