Helena L. (Boyko) Sowa, age 86, and a longtime resident of Somerset, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025 with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Edmund P. Sowa and the daughter of the late Frank J. Boyko Sr. and the late Helena A. (Wycislak) Boyko.

Helena was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, and had worked as a paraprofessional at the Fall River School Dept., and for the Bi-County Collaborative. She had previously worked as a private duty C.N.A. for 10 years, and had also assisted her father in the daily operations of Boyko Memorial Funeral Home for many years.

Helena was a major supporter of the Somerset Friends of Music, having served on the board of Directors for 40 years, and also served as the Vice President. She also served 30 plus years as the chairperson for the Somerset Music Town Festival King & Queen selection Committee.

Helena was the mother of Steven E. Sowa of Somerset, the late Donna J. Bateman of Homestead, FL, and the late Gregory E. Sowa of Somerset, MA; the sister of Anna Gannon of Sarasota, Florida, Katherine F. Milano (husband Louis) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and her grandson Austin T. Bateman; several nieces & nephews.

Per Helena's request, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Sowa Family Scholarship Foundation c/o Somerset Friends of Music, Pancreatic Cancer Research, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Helena's wake will be held on Thursday, June 19th from 4-7 P.M. in the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral on Friday, June 20th here at 8:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Gardner's Neck Rd., Swansea at 10:00 A.M.
