SOMERSET - With heavy hearts, Honorina D. (da Ponte Garcia) Arruda, age 95, passed away peacefully at Somerset Ridge Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Medeiros Arruda. Born in Lomba da Maia, St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Ambrosio Garcia and Celestina (da Ponte Sa) Garcia.

Honorina was a seamstress and worked as a machine operator after moving to Fall River. She later became a devoted homemaker and loving babysitter. She found her greatest joy in her family. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren and treasured every moment with the little ones in her life. Her home was often filled with the wonderful aromas of her baking, and she was especially known for her beautiful fondant floral decorations, which showcased both her creativity and her talent.

Honorina also had a love for gardening, taking great pride in growing and caring for her flowers. She enjoyed traveling and was especially fond of Rome. One of her most memorable journeys was a trip to see the Pope, an experience she held close to her heart.

She is survived by her children Maria Lourdes Botelho (husband John) of Mississauga, ON, Maria Goretti Freitas (husband John) of Mississauga, ON, Nelia Arruda Patricio of Charleston, SC and Anthony Medeiros (wife Claudia) of Somerset, MA; sister Celestina DeSilva; grandchildren Christopher, Kimberley and Jessica Botelho, Brian, Ashley and Shawna Freitas, Courtney, Sean and Matthew Patricio, Nathan and Nicholas Medeiros; as well as 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A morning visitation for Honorina will be held on Friday, August 28th from 8:30-10:30 A.M. in the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River. A funeral mass will follow at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Fall River at 11:00 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Mausoleum.
