SWANSEA - We are sad to announce that on February 22, 2025, Irene (Dias) Mello, age 98, passed away peacefully at Country Gardens Health Center. Beloved wife of the late Arsenio Mello, and born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Julia (Arruda) Dias.

Irene was primarily a homemaker, lovingly caring for her seven children and later, her grandchildren. In addition to her family duties, she volunteered at Veterans Hospitals and Special Needs Schools for children in Taunton and Lakeville, where she organized dance performances with her children.

Tragically, Irene lost all seven of her children over the course of her lifetime David Mello, Joyce Gillet, Steve Mello, Rosemary Mello, Brian Mello, Colleen Furtado and Shelia Foster. She was also predeceased by her brother Everett Dias. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Irene's funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Friday, February 28th here at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John of God Church at 10:00 AM. Interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Swansea. Calling hours on Thursday, February 27th from 5-8 PM.
