John S. Couto age 80 of Hephzibah, GA and previously of Fall River, MA, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026 at home after a brief illness. Born in Arrifes, São Miguel, Açores, John was the beloved husband of Maria Luisa (Vicente) Couto and the son of the late Norberto S. and Maria Conceicao (Almeida) Couto. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his son Paul Couto and his brother Manuel Couto.

Prior to retiring, John worked as a machine operator at Plymouth Rubber Company for many years. In his leisure time, John loved fishing, tending to his yard and his extensive vegetable garden. His love for animals had no bounds.  He raised many animals, including dogs, rabbits, parakeets, canaries and pigeons.  Most of all, John loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Maria, John is survived by his son John M. Couto and his wife Ana; his sister Maria Botelho; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and nieces & nephews.

John's morning visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 10, 2026 from 8:30-10:30 AM in the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, MA with a funeral mass to follow at St. Joseph's Church at 11:00 AM. Interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
