SWANSEA-With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jorge Moniz, age 83, who passed peacefully on June 1, 2026 at his residence surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved husband to Maria Helena (Borges) Moniz. Born in São Miguel, Açores he was the son to the late Manuel and Maria Conceicao (Aspera) Moniz.

Jorge was a semi-professional soccer player for Micaelence in the Azores, where he developed a lifelong passion for the sport. He was also a proud member of the Portuguese club Ateneu, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and connection to his community.

Jorge proudly served in the Portuguese Military and fought in Guine during his military service. After immigrating to the United States, he worked for Joan Fabrics for more than 30 years, earning the respect of colleagues through his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic. An avid walker who especially enjoyed his dog Jag along his side.
In 2005, he celebrated a significant achievement by becoming an American citizen, a milestone that reflected his commitment to building a life and future for his family.

He Survived by his children: Ana Thompson (husband Thomas) and Peter Moniz (wife Suzette); siblings: Zelia Carvalho and Madelina Moniz; grandchildren: Lilly, Logan, Violet Moniz, Olivia and Julia Thompson; great-grandchild Nalu Thompson; godchild: Mario Pacheco along with several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Jorge Moniz will be held on Wednesday, June 10th from 9:00-10:30 A.M. in the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River. A funeral mass will follow in St. Michaels Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
