Obituary

SOMERSET – In loving memory, we honor the life of Jose L. Da Luz, age 77, who passed away on September 23rd surrounded by his loving family at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Maria (Pacheco) Da Luz. Born in Furnas, São Miguel, Açores, to the late Joao Borges Da Luz and Maria M. (Tavares) Da Luz.

When he was 5-18, he began working as a dairy farmer in Furnas, St. Michael, before making the courageous move to America. Not long after, he returned home to marry the love of his life, and together they built a beautiful marriage of 65 years. He worked for more than 36 years at Heridite Finishing Company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and loyalty. A proud member of the Academica Social Club, he enjoyed time with friends, cheering on his favorite soccer team, Benfica. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Somerset and loved fishing, but more than anything, he cherished time spent with his family, who were truly the center of his world.

Along with his wife, he was loved and cherished by many people including his children Elena Costa (husband Russell Costa) of Swansea, Gorete Da Luz of Somerset and Luis Da Luz (wife Annalisa Da Luz) of Somerset; grandchildren Justin Costa (Wife Gabriel), Zachary Costa and Sean Costa, Ben Souza, Mychelle Souza and Christine Souza, Lorenza  Da Luz and Alessio Da Luz; great-grandchildren Koen Deltero, Oliver Costa, Addliyn Costa and; siblings John Borges, Amos Da Luz and the late Carlos Da Luz; as well as many nieces and nephews.
