FALL RIVER - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jose Maria Carvalho, who passed away on August 16, 2024, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Cremilde C. (Braga) Carvalho. Born in Capelas, São Miguel, Açores, he was the son of the late Vicente Carvalho and Natalia Sousa Amaral.

Prior to his retirement in 2012, Jose spent over 30 years working for Homeland Builders, building and remodeling Dunkin Donuts. He served as the Director of Our Lady of Light Band Club and had a deep passion for watching and listening to the Band March—he even had a March named in his honor. In his younger days in Capelas, he played soccer and remained a devoted Porto fan throughout his life. Jose found joy in tending to his grapevine and making wine every now and then, often sharing it with his neighbors. He also cherished playing dominos with his sons and grandsons and enjoyed watching YouTube videos of his homeland.

He was loved and cherished by many people including his children Sandra Carvalho of Fall River, Richie Carvalho (spouse Marilia) of Fall River, Brian Carvalho (spouse Nancy) of Westport and Derick Carvalho (spouse Michelle) of New Bedford; sisters Berta Rocha, Alda Rebelo and the late Laureno Carvalho; 6 grandchildren Nathan, Savannah, Garrett, Avery, Brexton and Aliyah Carvalho; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Jose's funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Thursday, August 22nd here at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Espirito Santo Church at 10:00 AM. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery.
