Jose Severiano
Pacheco
Nov 5, 1944 — Jun 22, 2022
Fall River
Jose Severiano Pacheco passed peacefully on June 22, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. A proud Portuguese-American, Jose was born in Vila Franca do Campo to Dionisio and Natividade Pacheco. He was married for 52 years to his best friend, Maria da Encarnacão Moniz Pacheco.
Jose is survived by six children whom he adored: Ana Riley and her husband Kyle of Fall River; Helena Sturtevant and her husband Eric of Warwick; Lucia Lesieur and her husband Jim of Westport; Paulina Richard and her husband Peter of Fall River; Angela Pacheco of New York City; and Jose S. Pacheco Jr. and his wife Mia of West Bridgewater. He also leaves behind seventeen beloved grandchildren, Kaitlyn Lesieur, Brenna Charette and her husband Zachary, James Lesieur, Gaelen Riley, Alexander Lesieur, Celia Pugsley, Connor Riley, Ryan Lesieur, Jensen Riley, Colman Riley, Gideon Richard, Griffin Richard, Seamus Riley, Severiana Pacheco, Elliot Richard, Parker Sturtevant, Isabella Pacheco, and two feisty great-granddaughters, Norah and Olivia Cordeiro. He is also survived by his sister, Fatima Branco and her husband, Carlos of Sao Miguel, Azores, and many nieces and nephews. In addition, he will be missed by his dear friend, John Carvalho as well his brothers- and sisters-in-law with whom he shared so many laughs at their regular weekend dinners.
Jose worked as liaison to Mayor Carlton Viveiros for over 15 years, where he was a fierce advocate for the Portuguese community. He then worked as a social worker for the Bristol County Sheriff's office until his retirement in 1995. Jose was the past president of the Luso-American Soccer Association and the St. Michael's Feast Committee. He served as mordomo at St. Michael's Church, where his wife and children processed tirelessly and without complaint. As an avid soccer enthusiast, Jose enjoyed cheering for his grandchildren at their games but cheered loudest for his team, Porto. Jose and his wife went to breakfast every morning at Newport Creamery, where the entire staff knew his name, his order, and his entire family. He was an avid reader (though he did not enjoy vampire stories), had a notorious sweet tooth and was never seen without his signature Ray Bans.
