In Loving Memory of Manuel F. Da Costa Jr.
Manuel F. Da Costa Jr., 86, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. His passing leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories, a legacy of love, hard work, laughter, music, and family.
Born in Livramento, São Miguel, Açores, Manuel was the beloved husband of Isilda (Sousa) Da Costa and the son of the late Manuel F. Da Costa and the late Maria Rosario Carreiro.
Before making his home in the United States, Manuel lived in the beautiful islands of the Açores and Bermuda. A dedicated and hardworking man, Manuel began working at the age of six during the difficult times of the 1940s, helping to provide for his family. That strong sense of responsibility and tremendous work ethic remained with him throughout his entire life. He worked for many years as a custodian for Joan Fabrics Co. before retiring. Manuel was known for always being willing to lend a helping hand.
Those who knew Manuel will remember him for the simple things that brought him the greatest joy. He loved playing his guitar, singing, listening to his beloved Portuguese music, and gathering around the table for card games with his grandchildren. He took great pride in tending to his vegetable garden and was happiest when cooking for family and friends. There was always room at Manuel's table for one more, and many will fondly remember his special roasted octopus.
One of Manuel's greatest passions was making his homemade wine, affectionately known as Vinho. He took great pride in making it and, even more so, in sharing it with the people he loved. He made his last batch in the fall of last year, a fitting reminder of the joy he found in creating something with his own hands and sharing it with others.
Manuel had a warm and generous heart. He loved deeply, worked tirelessly, and welcomed people into his life with kindness and a genuine smile. He touched the lives of everyone he met, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
In addition to his devoted wife, Isilda, Manuel leaves behind his six children: Gil Da Costa, and his late wife Lisa Da Costa, of Fall River; Laura Pimental and her husband Manuel of Somerset; Antonio Da Costa, Jose Da Costa, and Maria Grace Da Costa, all of Fall River; and Isilda Da Costa-Farias and her husband Paul Farias of Tiverton.
He is also remembered by his seven siblings, Joao Da Costa, Maria Teresa Mota, Maria Rosario Oliveira, Jose Ferreira, Virginia Botelho, Maria Fatima Sousa, and Maria dos Anjos Botelho; his five grandchildren, Joshua Farias, Anastasia "Raven" Da Costa, Alexander Da Costa, Gisele Marie Pimental, and Serena Farias; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Manuel loved his family deeply and was deeply loved in return by family near and far, from the Açores and Bermuda to the United Kingdom, Canada, and across the United States.
Above all, Manuel was a family man. His greatest joy was being surrounded by the people he loved. His stories, his music, his laughter, his homemade wine, and the love he so freely gave will live on in the hearts of his family for generations to come.
Though he is no longer with us, Manuel's memory will remain a blessing. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who knew him.
