Fall River

Obituary

Manuel A. Lomba, age 85, of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at St. Anne's Hospital. Born in Guimarães, Porto, Portugal, he was the beloved husband of Virginia (Ferreira Lourenço) Lomba, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. He was the son of the late Henrique José and Theresa (Alves da Lage) Lomba.

At a young age, Manuel left Portugal to begin a new life in Brazil, where he met the love of his life, Virginia. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, raising their two daughters before moving to the United States in 1973.

Manuel was a hardworking and dedicated man who took great pride in providing for those he loved. He retired from Lightolier Manufacturing after working over 25 years. A man of deep faith, Manuel was a parishioner of Espírito Santo Church and a member of the Holy Name Society.

Manuel found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid gardener who lovingly cared for his grapevine and vegetable garden each year, always sharing the fruits of his labor with family, friends, and neighbors. Manuel also cherished scenic Sunday drives to Fogland Beach, where he would fondly reminisce about the many memories made there over the years with his family and loved ones. His outings often ended with a stop at Gray's Ice Cream, where he enjoyed a cup of his favorite strawberry ice cream. He enjoyed cheering on the N.E Patriots and FC Porto.

Most of all, Manuel cherished the time he spent with his family. His family was his world and he was always there with love, support, and encouragement in any way he could offer. Whether gathered around the table for family dinner, celebrating the holidays, or enjoying occasional trips to Maine or New Hampshire, Manuel treasured every moment spent with those he loved by expressing his joy and gratitude.

In addition to his loving wife, Virginia, Manuel is survived by the "loves of his life" his daughters: Olivia Raposo (husband Carlos), Claudia De Almeida (husband Richard); his cherished granddaughter, Jacqueline Raposo; his brother Jose Lomba, and his sister Ana Lomba; his beloved grand-dog, Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.

Manuel's family would like to extend their sincere, heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses and staff at Catholic Memorial Home and the St. Anne's Hospital especially those working in the St. Dominic, St. Catherine, and St. Jude units for their attention and care that was given to their father. Their expressions of love and kindness are bringing the family such comfort at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Manuel's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
