FALL RIVER – Maria L. Abelha, age 91, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024 at the Catholic Memorial Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred Raposo Abelha. Born in Rabo de Peixe, São Miguel, Açores, daughter of the late Manuel Sousa Travassos and Rita DeJesus Vieira. Maria loved to garden, which showed through her beautiful flowers. She was a great cook. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was loved and cherished by many people including her children Alfredo L. Abelha, Marie L. Almeida, Manuel Abelha, Jose Abelha, Cecilia Smigel, Paul Abelha, Paula Cabral and the late Antonio Abelha; siblings Theresa Santos, Nazaria Senra, Bertha Vieira and the late Juliette Franco; as well as many many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Saturday, June 15, 2024 here at 8 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. Michael's Church at 9 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 4-7 P.M.
