Maria L. Augusto, age 84 of New Bedford and previously of Fall River, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025 in the comforts of her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Fajã de Baixo, São Miguel, Açores, Maria was the beloved wife of Antonio Augusto and the daughter of the late Ernest Medeiros Carreiro and the late Maria Rosa DeSousa.

Prior to retiring, Maria worked as a machine operator for the former Quaker Mfg. for some 23 years. She also served as a foster parent for over 20 years. Maria loved to go camping with her family, and she also loved to crochet. Most of all, Maria loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandsons.

In addition to her husband Antonio of 55 years, Maria is survived by her son, Durval Augusto (wife Diane) of N. Dartmouth; grandsons, Logen & Hunter Augusto; siblings, the late Maria Isaltina Arruda (late husband Diodato), the late Durval Carreiro (wife Margarida Amaral Carreiro), Jose Maria Carreiro (wife Alzira), Natalia Goncalves (husband Joao), and Luzia Carreiro Sampaio; nieces & nephews; and several godchildren.

Visitation for Maria will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 8:30-10:30 A.M. in the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N.
