FALL RIVER – Maria do Carmo (Gouveia) Soares, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021 with her loving family by her side. Born in Fenais da Luz, Sao Miguel, Azores, Maria was the beloved wife of the late Jose Ferreira Soares and the daughter of the late Arthur & Maria do Carmo (Pedro Barbosa) Gouveia. She resided in Fall River since 1969.

Prior to retiring, Maria worked for Ideal Bias Binding Co. as a machine operator. She was a parishioner of St. Michael's Church and a member of the Our Lady of Light Society. Most of all, Maria loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her 4 children: Jose G. Ferreira (wife Lucia) of Fall River, Fernando M. Ferreira (wife Connie) of Dighton, Edward M. Ferreira of Fall River, and Maria Madalena Teves (husband Jose) of Fall River; siblings: Carlos Gouveia of Somerset, Maria Machado & Isabel Sousa both of Fall River; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Maria was the sister of the late Domingos Gouveia, Conceicao Pereira, Jose Gouveia, and Maria Aguiar.

Maria's funeral is under the direction of the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to go directly to St. Michael's Church on Tuesday, Dec. 7 ^th at 10:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
