TAUNTON — Our hearts are broken as we say goodbye to Maria Nazare Melo, age 61, who passed on September 24, 2026, at Boston Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Raul Melo. Born in Flores, Açores, she was the daughter of the late Antonio P. Silva and Otilia (Jorge) Silva.

Maria was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished the time she spent with her family and creating memories together. She stood alongside her husband and family, always supporting and caring for those she loved. She took great pride in her family and in the life they shared together. Maria enjoyed many activities, as well as cooking, and was especially known for her delicious lasagna.

Her faith was a very important part of her life. She found comfort and joy in studying stories of salvation and nurturing her personal relationship with Jesus. She also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and spending time with her beloved dog, Gunner, who loved her just as deeply in return.

Maria had a selfless and caring heart. Even while battling her own illness, she devoted herself to caring for her ailing mother and continued to be there for her, offering her love, strength, and support. Her unwavering devotion to her mother was a true reflection of the kind and compassionate person she was.

Above all, Maria will be remembered for her loving heart, strong faith, selflessness, and devotion to her family.

She is survived by her sons, David Melo and his wife, Christina Melo, and Johnny Melo; her siblings, Tony Silva and his wife, Cheryl Silva; Paul Silva and his significant other, Lori; and Emilio Silva; her brother-in-law, John Melo, and his wife, Staci; her grandchildren, Aiden Melo and Collin Melo; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Her calling hours will take place at Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, on Friday, October 2, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., with services at 6:00 P.M by Fr. Matt. Cremation will follow.
