SWANSEA – Maria V. Monteiro, age 76, passed away on September 19, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving husband Arthur F. Monteiro and her son Paul Monteiro. Born in São Vicente Ferreira, São Miguel, Açores, she was the daughter of Jose and Evangelina (Melo) Jorge.

Before her illness, Maria was an active member of St. Michael's Parish, where she assisted in organizing events, often cooking and working the concession stand. She loved traveling with her husband, especially on cruises. Maria also loved her daily mall walks, where she and her husband would meet up with their walking group.

Along with her husband and son she was loved and cherished by many people including her siblings Norberto Jorge and his wife Esmeralda of Swansea and late sister Maria I. deMelo; grandchild Tiffany DoRego; great-grandchildren Cameron Teasdale, Manuel Lopez and Breidy DoRego; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Maria's funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Monday, September 23rd here at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael's Parish at 10:00 AM. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours on Sunday, September 22nd from 2-6 P.M.
