FALL RIVER — Maria C. "Connie" Tavares, 74, passed away peacefully at Sarah Brayton Nursing Center on August 30, 2026, surrounded by her children. Born in Covoada, St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Benevides) Cordeiro.

Connie was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael's Church. Church was a major part of her life, and she loved to be there. A social butterfly, she enjoyed people and the company of family and friends. For more than 20 years she cared for others as a CNA at the Adams House, where her gentle and compassionate nature touched many lives.

Above all else, her family was her world. She raised her children with her whole heart, and her grandchildren were a major part of her life. She always looked forward to caring for them, and to the holidays, when she cooked and everybody came to her house. Her faith, her warmth, and her selfless love will be remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Steve Tavares and his wife Carol, Elizabeth Cintron and her husband Jorge, and Priscilla Ferreira and her husband David; her grandchildren, Alyssa Paquin, Tevin Cintron, Terianna Rita, Ava Tavares, and Benjamin Ferreira; her great-granddaughter, Olyvia Paquin; her siblings, Jose Gomes, Antonio Cordeiro, Ilda Resendes, Ermelinda Barbosa, and Sandra Cabral; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her.

A morning visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River. A funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
