Mary Oliveira (Nee: Maria da Apresentacao Pimentel Oliveira) , of Miami, Florida and Fall River, Massachusetts, born in Santo Antonio, S. Miguel, Azores on November 17, 1939. She died peacefully, surrounded by her children on June 8, 2022, in Anchorage, Alaska after suffering a stroke. Mary was the wife of the late Gilberto Oliveira, whom they shared over 45 years of marriage, and daughter of the late Manuel and Elvira Gloria Pimentel Oliveira. Mary is survived by her four children Rose Mary, spouse Antonio (Tony) Saraiva; Gilbert; Steven, partner Cindy Moniz; and John, spouse Natalie Cordeiro-Oliveira. In addition to her children, she has seven grandchildren, Rachel Saraiva who predeceased her grandmother; Andrea Rebello, fiance Jared Talbot; Jacob Anthony Saraiva, partner Sarah Brilhante; Aaron John Oiveira; Caitlyn Grace Oliveria; Jarad Moniz and Miranda Mary Oliveira. She also has 6 great grandchildren - Lucas Gilbert Rebello, Logan Richard Rebello, Lilah Michaela Rae Sousa Saraiva, Elliott James Antonio Talbot, Kenzie Moniz and Kaide Moniz. Her children, grandchildren and great granchilden where truly her pride and joy. She is also survived by her many brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as several godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Manuel Oliveira Pimentel, Maria da Conceicao Moniz, and Maria da Lourdes Aguiar.
Mary immigrated to this country in 1957 at the age of 17, went to school to learn English and began working, as many did, in the factories as a sewing machine operator and seamstress. She married Gilberto in 1958 and they began the legacy that shines brightly today.
Mary was an avid fisherwoman, who truly enjoyed spending time by the water's edge, catching enough fish for herself and to share with others. In addition, she was always ready for an adventure and was blessed to have visited many of our great states, missing only three, and visiting many countries across the world - all you had to say is are you ready... and before you could finish the sentence, she would be at the door with her suitcase packed and ready to go. She had many great hobbies, such as gardening, cooking for family and friends, knitting, crocheting and tatting, as well as reading, and was always ready for a trip to the casino.
Mary was full a life, lived it fully, and enjoyed every moment spent with her family and friends. She taught her children to be outspoken, to stand up for what is right, to take nothing for granted and to truly treasure every moment we have on this great planet. Both Mary and Gilberto always reminded us that, "this life only truly gives us two days, one has already gone, and tomorrow is not guaranteed, so live for today." And "All you take with you are the memories you make, so make them count."
