Mary
Silvia
Oct 17, 1932 — Jun 16, 2026
Fall River
Mary Silvia, of Fall River, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 16th, 2026, at 93 years old. Born on October 17, 1932, to Catherine and Jacinto Perreira, Mary spent her life in Fall River. She began her career as a seamstress at age 16, working in the mills at Shelburne Shirt and later at Sagamore. She also spent many years working in the food service industry. Whether at work, at home, or lending a helping hand to those who needed her, Mary was a dedicated and hardworking woman who could always be counted on by her family and friends.
Mary enjoyed music, singing, and playing the organ. Affectionately known as the "Yodel Lady" to friends, Mary would call into her favorite radio show nightly to sing and yodel. She would also perform at local festivals and feasts, and she was always the first one on board for a round of karaoke. For many years, Mary was renowned among family and friends for her cooking. Her most famous dish was her stuffed quahogs, dubbed Vo-hogs, by those who loved her. Mary loved holidays and celebrations. While she treasured her close relationship with her daughter and her family, Mary was also embraced by many as one of their own. A welcome presence at family gatherings, celebrations, and milestones, she formed lasting bonds wherever she went and was cherished by countless friends and extended families alike.
Mary was a loving mother to her daughter Mary Ann Heroux (husband Jeffrey), Vovo to her granddaughters Nicole McGonigle (husband Ryan), and April Heroux, and her great-grandchildren Corinne and Cameron McGonigle. She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Joseph, Jesse, Jennie, Sedalia, and Caroline, and her husband, George Silvia.
Mary will be remembered for having an engaging, vibrant presence that made every room brighter and every gathering warmer. She is loved dearly and will be forever missed by those who knew her, as they remember her vivacious spirit.
