Fall River
Matthew Q. Suneson, age 67 of Fall River, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at So. Shore Hospital, Weymouth. Born Nov. 4, 1957 in Fall River to the late Norman and the late Kathleen (O'Keefe) Suneson. Matt was the beloved husband of Carolyn (Stavros) Suneson for 38 years.
Matt had worked as a Boilermaker and was a member of the Boilermakers Union Local 29 of Boston. In his free time, Matt was an avid golfer and tried to hit the links as often as he could, getting his first hole in one at Fall River Country Club. During the summer, he could often be found in his favorite spot at Baker's Beach in Westport. In the winter he spent his time in Florida on North Hutchinson Island.
Matt was a standout athlete and was inducted into BMC Durfee High School's Hall of Fame in 2003. He was an outstanding lineman on the Hilltoppers football team, played center for the Red & Black in basketball and the outfield in baseball. He was a team leader, who received special awards following each sports career at Durfee. He won the Trevisano Award as the Hilltoppers' best lineman; the Sam Seigel Award for sportsmanship in basketball, and the Coach's Award for his performance and dedication on the baseball diamond.
Most of all, Matt loved being with his friends and family, especially with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Carolyn, survivors include his son Justin Bond (Danielle) of Falmouth; siblings Ann (Eric) Warner of Great Britain, Michael Suneson (Diane) of So. Dartmouth, Peter Suneson (JoAnn) of Swansea, Mark Suneson of Oak Bluffs, Thomas Suneson (Kim) of Florida, and Mary Suneson of Florida; grandchildren Gavin, Rozlynn, and Evelyn; many nieces & nephews.
