Obituary

Westport - It is with deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Richard "Wawa" C. Alves Sr. on December 11, 2024, at home surrounded by his devoted family. He is now reunited with his late wife Elaine M. (Perry) Alves, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years. Born in Fall River, he was the son of late Camillo and Jennie (Rybka) Alves.

Before retiring, Richard worked at Home Depot for 25 years. Prior to working at Home Depot, Richard worked as a grocery manager at Star Market and Almacs. Richard also served honorably for the United States Army National Guard.

He enjoyed playing poker, camping, going on vacations with his wife to the Cape, tropical destinations and cruises. He cherished the holiday seasons and family get togethers. Most of all he was a genuine man who would go out of his way to help anyone.

In his younger days, he coached CYO basketball, baseball and tennis, but cherished teaching and playing tennis with his family.

He was a loving father to his children Keri Soares of Westport and Richard C. Alves Jr. (wife Arlene) of Dartmouth; brother to late Camillo Alves, Barbara Tavares (late husband David), late Roger Alves (late wife Joan), late Robert Alves (wife Maria), late Gene Alves (late wife Jacqueline), Carol Byron (husband Steve), Sharon Weber (husband John); grandfather of Lauren Callahan (husband Jon), Connor Alves, Dylan Soares, and Joya Alves; great-grandfather to Summer and Jack Callahan; godfather to Lynn Cree and Randy Byron. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Following cremation, relatives and friends are invited to celebrate a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday December 28, 2024. Arrangements are under the direction of Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St. Fall River.
