Rosa Duarte
Dos Reis Patricio
Jan 4, 1933 — Dec 3, 2024
Fall River
Rosa Duarte Dos Reis Patricio passed away on Tuesday, December 3rd at the age of 91. Rosa was born in Fenais da Luz, on the island of São Miguel, Açores where she married her husband of 65 years, Gabriel M. Patricio, and raised her family until immigrating to the United States in 1977. Upon settling in Fall River, Rosa worked in the garment industry until her retirement.
Once retired, Rosa's life focused exclusively on her family. Her passion for cooking and feeding anyone who came to her house gave her much joy. Her homemade Azorean style bread was her masterpiece resulting in many gatherings around the kitchen table enjoying hot bread, smothered in butter, a slice of cheese from São Jorge, and a cup of tea or coffee. Though she passed down the recipe, replicating it has proven difficult given that the recipe is equal parts ingredients and equal parts love.
A devout Catholic, Rosa's faith helped her navigate her life through good and bad times. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a blessing to all who knew her.
Rosa is survived by her husband, Gabriel M. Patricio, her sons Alfred Patricio (Cynthia), Gabriel Patricio (Aida), Carlos Patricio (Linda) and Liberio "Lee" Patricio (Margaret); grandchildren James Patricio, Courtney Patricio, Brienne Wapenyi, Karen Patricio, Sean Patricio, and Matthew Patricio; great-grandchildren Leah, Travis, Andre, Kaylor, Zara, and Tristian; and her brother Alfredo Duarte. She was also the loving grandmother of the late Taylor Patricio whom she missed tremendously.
In addition to her mother, Maria da Gloria Reis, Rosa was predeceased by her siblings Firmino Sousa, Agostinho Sousa, Lurdes Duarte, and Maria dos Anjos Tavares.
Rosa's funeral will take place at the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Saturday, Dec. 7th at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Michael's Church at 10AM. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 6th from 6-8PM.
