Fall River

Obituary

FALL RIVER – Shirley Ann (Burns) Al-Saied, age 78, passed away peacefully at Catholic Memorial Home on February 12, 2025. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Patrick Mathias Burns and Alice (Viveiros Vosconcellos) Burns.

Shirley led a vibrant and adventurous life. A proud two-time graduate of Kinyon-Campbell Business School, she first earned a certificate in business in 1970, followed by a certificate in travel-tourism in 1997. Shirley's passion for travel took her to many parts of the world, with India, Syria, Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, and Thailand among her favorites. These journeys inspired her to start an import/export business, curating and sharing unique goods from these regions with her community.

Alongside her love for travel, Shirley was passionate about dance, having danced professionally in her early life. Dance remained a lifelong passion, and she also found joy in sewing and gardening, where her creativity flourished.

She is loved and cherished by her son, Maurice Patrick Lievesley; granddaughter, Keeley Style (Lievesley) López; and former daughter-in-law, Christine (Perkins) Lievesley. She is also survived by her sister, Carol (Burns) Duddy, her husband Richard Duddy, and their son Patrick Duddy, along with many other family members.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 21st, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River. A funeral mass will follow at 11:30 AM at St. Michael's Church, with cremation to follow. A graveside service will take place on March 17th, her favorite day of the year, at 9 A.M. at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fall River. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Shirley's memory to Trekking Pals, a woman-owned business dedicated to empowering women to travel and supporting women-run cooperatives worldwide. Trekking Pals' mission is to inspire confidence and foster a sense of community among women travelers while uplifting women entrepreneurs across the globe.
