Obituary

FREETOWN - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Susan Jose, age 81, who passed away unexpectedly with her family by her side at St. Anne's Hospital. She was the devoted wife of 63 years to Arnold Jose. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Jr. and Palmeda (Baldaia) Moniz.

Susan dedicated over four decades of her life to the Town of Freetown, serving with distinction from 1971 to 2014 as Communications Supervisor and making history as the town's first female police officer. After her retirement from public service, she brought her unwavering commitment and warmth to the family business, Phoenix Energy. A parishioner of the United Church of Assonet, Susan found joy in her faith and family. An avid reader, she especially loved getting lost in the pages of romance novels. Together with her beloved husband, she embraced a spirit of adventure, journeying across 49 states in their motor home — even reaching the rugged beauty of western Canada and Alaska. These travels allowed them to divide their time between their homes in Massachusetts and Florida.

She was the loving mother to James M. Jose, Robert P. Jose (wife Lori) and the late Mark A. Jose (wife Kelly); grandmother to Marissa Jesus, Randy Jose, Kaylin Jose and Ramon Jose; great-grandmother to Emilio Jose, Everette Jose and to another great-grandson on the way; sister to Allen Moniz and the late Janet Mings, Nancy Dykes, Leonard Moniz, Stephen Moniz and Daniel Moniz III. She is also leaves behind many nieces, nephews as well as the Moss Family(Joseph, Rebeca, Marcus and Isabella) whom she cherished.

Following cremation, a morning visitation will be held at  Manuel Rogers Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on May 28th from 9:00am-10:15am, followed by a memorial service at United Church of Assonet at 11:00am.
