Vasco
Cordeiro
May 22, 1933 — Oct 5, 2024
Fall River
Vasco Cordeiro, Sr., 91, of Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on October 5, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer, a battle he faced with the same bravery and tenacity that marked his entire life. Born on May 22, 1933, in Arrifes, São Miguel, Azores, Vasco immigrated to the United States in search of a better life for his family.
Vasco's life was defined by his extraordinary work ethic, devout faith, and commitment to his family. As a young man, he proudly served in the Portuguese military and as a volunteer fire chief, experiences that shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and service. His hands were never idle, always building, repairing, and creating.
Vasco was the beloved patriarch of a large and loving family, preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Maria Conceição Cordeiro and his brothers Davide and Oliverio. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Ana (Rodrigues) Cordeiro, his six children, Ana Diogo (Deniz), Maria Pontes, Rui Cordeiro (Helena), Isabel Vieira, Vasco Cordeiro, Jr (Deborah), and Patricia Allen, who all inherited his values of hard work, perseverance, and humor. He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren, Brian Raposo (Caitlin), Matthew Pontes (Leann), Elizabeth Pontes, Ryan Vieira, Jesse Vieira (Makenna), Noah Cordeiro (Lesley), Michael Vieira, Nicholas Cordeiro, Grace Vieira, Jack Cordeiro, Julia Cordeiro and Victoria Allen. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Cameron, Kaia, Matthew, Maxwell and Matilda, brother-in-law, father-in-law and uncle. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, leaving a legacy of love that will endure for generations. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he took immense pleasure in their achievements and happiness.
Vasco's life was a testament of faith and service, dedicating his life to God and others. He was an active member of the St. Michael's Church, where he found solace and strength throughout his life. His faith was a cornerstone, guiding his actions and inspiring those around him. He will forever be remembered and cherished by those who had the privilege to know him.
Visitation will be held at Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 10:00am, followed by burial at St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.
