Obituary

SOMERSET – Surrounded by loved ones, William Ward Barlow, known to family and friends as Ward, peacefully passed away at home on November 26, 2025, at the age of 79. He was the beloved husband and soul mate of the love of his life, Vanessa J. (Perry) Barlow. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late William Barlow and Eleanor (Marchand) Barlow of Somerset.

Ward grew up in Somerset, where he developed a passion for sports and leadership from an early age. In his youth, he enjoyed playing baseball and later stood out as the quarterback for Somerset High School, a role that reflected his determination and teamwork.

After graduation, Ward proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Following his service, he built a long and successful career as a loyal and skilled truck driver in the oil industry, spending many years on the road and earning deep respect from colleagues and friends.

A devoted family man, Ward's life was defined by love, loyalty, and adventure. He cherished every moment spent with his wife Vanessa, their Yorkie Sofia, and his family. Together, throughout many years, Ward and Vanessa enjoyed countless road trips, traveling and exploring our amazing country.

Athletic and energetic throughout his life, Ward was an avid golfer and an enthusiastic tennis and racquetball player. He rarely missed a Red Sox or Patriots game, cheering passionately for his favorite teams.

For 34 years, Ward made his home in Boynton Beach, Florida, where many of his happiest moments were spent on the water aboard his beloved boat, On the Rocks. Florida became a place of peace and joy for him—filled with sunshine, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, including his decades-long close friend, Edmund Ferreira of Fall River.

Ward is survived by his son, Nicholas Barlow and wife Melissa of Florida; his grandson, Matthew Barlow and wife Michaela of Kentucky; his sister, Elizabeth (Beth) Maelhmann and late husband Bill of Florida; his sister-in-law, Cynthia S. Silvia of Somerset; his nephew, Matthew Silvia of Somerset; and his great-nephew, Gavin Silvia of Somerset.
